MENTAL HEALTH
To help families cope with the impact of the disaster on their children, Recupera Chile has sponsored family and teacher trainings on the mental health impact after a disaster, on family behavioral interventions and on reading initiatives.
The disaster of 2010 had 2 major effects with respect to health and mental health.

The earthquake and tsunamis had a direct impact, causing health and mental health problems

There was serious damage to the health infrastructure in the area, which made it difficult for families to access routine preventive, acute and chronic, and mental health care.
The programs focus on preventing health problems and mental health. For example, there is a kinesiology program that teaches techniques for relaxation, stress reduction, and self-reflection to children, parents, and teachers.
