VEGETABLE GARDENS OF PERALES

A VEGETABLE GARDEN IN THE HOSPITAL

An extension of the vegetable garden was made in the hospital due to the great acceptance and adherence held by the group of mental health patients. Resources were assigned by the Health Service with an amount of $500.000 Chilean pesos. Products are used to barter and to exchange patient services, also for self-consumption and celebrations among the patients.

 

 

In August 2016, we finish the installation of plastics in 5 greenhouses and they are operational, all seeded and growing. All the women have in their gardens crops like lettuce, pumpkins, rocket, chillies, beans and chard. These food products will be used for self-consumption and also for exchange or sale. 

 

The women beneficiaries are: María Escobar, María Praderas, Marta Toledo, María Cisternas and the Posta de Alto Perales.

 

All the women with vegetable gardens in Coelmenu can have access to sell their products in stands that are installed by the municipality in front of the Plaza de Armas, during the entire week, including Saturday.

 

MARTA TOLEDO'S VEGETABLE GARDEN

Marta grows pumpkin, celery, chilli and parsley. With these she helps to support her family and she also exchanges products between her neighbours . Marta nurtured her garden with kelp and the result was a success.

 

MARÍA PRADENA'S VEGETABLE GARDEN

María grows noni, golden berry and pumpkin. Noni is harvested throughout the year and her customers are school children . With the money raised, she helps her daughter with the payment of the university.

 

MARÍA CISTERNAS'S VEGETABLE GARDEN

María grows beans, chard and lettuce. The production is for her family consumption and to exchange with her neighbours.
