Concepción, especially the Coliumo Bay, is a zone that presents excellent conditions for doing water and sailing sports. In the past, fishermen and people from the community used the sail as means of transport and also to fish.

 

On 2012, a group of friends and water sports enthusiasts donated 5 vessels Optimist type to the school Caleta del Medio of Coliumo. At present there is a team of 10 children who compete in regattas at the regional level.

 

On 2014, the school of Dichato applied for funding to build a nautical center on the waterfront of Dichato. The construction was delivered on March 2016. 

 

On 2015, Recupera Chile delivers 10 wetsuits to the school. Also, that same year the school of Dichato through SEP funds applied to incorporate to its educator’s program a Nautical Instructor. During the summer, the students from the school of Dichato could enjoy navigation lessons and kayak held by the teacher Claudio Villaroel. The classes will extend during the whole year and the new Nautical Center located on the seafront will be used for practical lessons and as a jetty.
